How To Find a Trauma Therapist

Trauma is a very common experience in our society. Trying to manage the feelings and symptoms that come with unresolved trauma can be painful and exhausting. Luckily there are many ways to get support to ease the struggle and maybe even resolve the symptoms altogether.

If you are ready to seek support from a therapist, be sure to find a therapist who is trained in treating trauma. Treating trauma requires advanced training for therapists and does not come with the standard education provided for licensure.

How to know if your therapist is trained to treat trauma.

  1. Ask if they have had specialized training in trauma treatment.

  2. Ask how long they have been helping people resolve and manage trauma symptoms.

  3. Make sure you feel at ease and comfortable with them. No amount of knowledge can replace a feeling of comfort with a person when addressing sensitive issues.

Common Treatments for Trauma-

Ideally your therapist had in depth training in one of these modalities

  1. EMDR- Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing.

  2. Somatic Processing

  3. Internal Family Systems

Good Luck!

This is a journey work taking. You are worth the time and effort to find relief and joy in your life again.
